Rome Capital has adhered to the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which takes place every year on 17 October. This is what the approved Memory by the City Council states, providing the city with the opportunity to access an important international initiative introduced by the UN with a resolution on 22 December 1992.

The measure also gives the Department of the Person, School and Solidarity Community the mandate to implement, within the City Social Plan, instruments of accompaniment and strengthening aimed at combating the phenomenon of impoverishment and social isolation.

The theme of poverty was analyzed today at the Capitol, during the 7th Meeting of the International Committee for October 17, consisting of people from all walks of life, including people in poverty, engaged in the fight against poverty and coming from various continents.

In the course of the work, the theme on which the 2018 Day will focus was chosen: human rights. This year we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which is the first document to universally establish (i.e. in every historical period and in every part of the world) the rights that are due to human beings.

On the occasion of 17 October Roma Capitale will organize events, demonstrations, initiatives to raise awareness, highlighting the importance of hospitality, voluntary work and the contribution of the entire community starting from people who live in disadvantaged conditions; no one excluded.
