Port Louis - Saturday 19 October 2019 - Discussion with different stakeholders, including children and their families living in poverty

The October 17 Committee (Platform of NGOs fighting against poverty) and the National Human Rights Commission invite you to participate in a dialogue and exchange on the theme:

Eliminating Child Poverty: A Commitment of Society and a Challenge for Human Rights
Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.,
Conference Room, Labourdonnais Hotel, Port Louis

Celebrated since 1987 as the World Day for The Eradication of Poverty and endorsed by the United Nations in 1992, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty fosters dialogue and understanding between people living in poverty and their communities, and with society in general.

This year marks the 30thanniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989.  This landmark human rights treaty sets out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of every child whatever his or her race, religion and abilities. But for all the children who suffer daily because of poverty and the stigma that often accompanies it, the promise of a hopeful childhood has not been fully realized. Is the poverty of children and their families an infringement of the rights of children contained in the International Convention dedicated to them?  Are the fight against child poverty and the promotion of human rights linked?  How to set up an overall policy that involves all actors and opens up a future for all children?

All these issues are rarely discussed among specialists, but never with the main stakeholders themselves: Children living in poverty, their families, and the people and NGOs involved with them on a daily basis.

We wish to dialogue and exchange on this questions to mark the International Day of Eradication of Poverty.
