Aye Aye Win and Belinda Nugent, members of the International Committee for October 17, joined the Stop Poverty Campaign in Strasbourg.

On Thursday 15 June 2017, Aye Aye Win, residing in Strasbourg, joined a delegation of Ireland at the « 17 October Human Rights and Poverty Stone » in front of the European Parliament. Belinda Nugent, also member of the Committee was there too, being one of the delegate from Ireland.

At the 17 October Stone, a symbolic gathering took place, an opportunity to read publicly the 2017 "Stop Poverty Call to Action" and to observe a minute of silence for the participants in the « Our Voices » project who died in 2016 and 2017 from « the early death sentence which represents poverty ».

In the evening, some of the participants could meet again, in a homey way, and continued sharing about their projects and commitment to stop poverty.

Poverty is a form of violence. It leads to humiliation and it silences people. It destroys lives. But poverty is not inevitable. Like slavery or discrimination, it can be overcome.
Those who endure poverty resist its injustice in countless ways. If we are to confront the challenges facing the world today, we need their intelligence and courage.
Today, people who feel outcast are making themselves heard and are taking action. Others are joining them to build a peaceful world where no one is left behind.
